August is Peridot month

The birthstone for August is the beautiful green gem peridot. Sometimes called olivine, the main sources for peridot are Arizona and Pakistan. Peridot comes from the Arabic Faridat , meaning gemstone.  In legend it is reputed to bring happiness and good cheer, attract lovers, and strengthen the eyes, in addition to warding off terrors of the night and protecting against the evil eye.
